GABA stands for gamma aminobutyric acid or γ-aminobutyric acid and acts as an important neurotransmitter in the human nerve system.
But GABA is not just a transmitter, it is also among the non-proteinogenic amino acids. An enzyme produces GABA glutamate which in turn is oxidised from Glutamine. GABA is therefore termed a biogenic amine of glutamic acid.
